Bolster AI has released new research showing a sharp rise in holiday-related scams, including a 118% spike in phishing over Thanksgiving, 229% over Black Friday, and a 128% overall increase from last year. The company highlights seven major threats this season: delivery-notification impersonations, fake online storefronts promoted through paid ads, a projected 122% rise in smishing attacks, growing QR-code fraud, gift card schemes, fake charity solicitations, and seasonal job scams. CEO Rod Schultz notes attackers are now using AI and low-cost toolkits to create convincing fake storefronts, ads, and chatbot-driven support. Bolster advises consumers to verify delivery alerts through official apps, be wary of extreme discounts, inspect QR codes and URLs, and avoid any request for gift card payments. The company also recommends brands monitor lookalike domain registrations, publish official sale links early, and establish rapid takedown processes with hosting providers and platforms.
