Rod Schultz has joined Silicon Valley-based brand security startup Bolster to tailor its technology for CISOs, addressing both external threats and internal data risks as AI adoption accelerates. Schultz was drawn to Bolster by the unique security challenges posed by AI, particularly the potential for AI-driven fraud to exploit social engineering vulnerabilities. Bolster’s AI models, developed for detecting threats on the dark web and in emails, offer a strong foundation for Schultz’s vision to expand into internal data protection, helping companies proactively manage a broad range of data security concerns.

“The cost of creating fraud from one customer target to the next is approaching zero,” Schultz told Information Security Media Group. “The costs of execution and precision are both dropping, making it easier to generate fake information and deceive individuals. This is quickly becoming a very real threat.”

Previously, Schultz led product and engineering at identity startup Dust for nearly two years and directed product security, privacy, governance, trust, and safety at Zoom for almost two years. Earlier in his career, he was a project lead at Adobe for nearly seven years, a senior software engineer at Apple, and a network security infrastructure engineer at Cisco.
